Actions To Take When Your Site Ranking Drops

For most website owners their day starts with the morning coffee and a check of the sites’ rankings to see how it is doing. Unfortunately, there are moments when you wished you haven’t done that so early in the morning. When the rankings of your site have dropped at an alarming rate then you can be sure that something is wrong. Your site might just be experiencing the nasty results of an algorithm change of the search engine. However, if you want things to improve then here are the four rules that you should follow.

Start building links. This may take some time but it will certainly pay off the effort. Of course, you will be tempted to re-code your entire website, to call your SEO and IT managers and to give them a piece of your mind. This however, might prove to be counterproductive. Every SEO person knows that once in a while these things happen and it is best to focus on the solution and not on the yelling. Find the best articles, blog posts and so on and start linking to them.

Relax a few days. You will definitely feel the need to dive into the action and start doing something but the reality is that you shouldn’t change a thing on your site for at least a couple of days. Even if you add some great content, in a time like this it might make matters worse.

Take a look at the competition. See which are the sites that outrank your website and check them out. Notice what they are doing differently and what strategies are they using. Analyze all the data that you collect and only then draw conclusions and decide what you should do. See what on page optimization strategy they are applying and analyze it in order to see whether you can apply this to your website or not.

Once you have all the data necessary you should figure out what your next move will be. Discuss your findings with your SEO manager or simply compile everything yourself. Don’t take any rash decisions because you might just end up making things worse. There are lots of things that you should take into consideration this is why it is better to move slowly but think strategically. Getting your rankings up is surely your gal, but so is maintaining your site to the high quality you accustomed your readers/clients.
