"Browser" Opera Will Seriously Go to TV

Norwegian browser company sites, Opera, believes convergence between the Internet and TV will continue to grow and become a trend in the future. Therefore, the Opera is ready to make a TV as a platform that will be taken seriously.

Like Opera's CEO Lars Boilesen expressed during the discussion on event Up North Web 2011 in Holmenkollen, Oslo, Tuesday (10/11/2011), it believes the number of users equipped with Internet TV in the world will continue to increase. Currently, said Boilesen, modern television sales figures that are connected to the Internet only reaches about 20 percent.

"But in the future the numbers will continue to rise and for which television is a platform that will be the focus of the Opera," said Boilesen.

Still according to Boilesen, now Opera has tied collaboration with four of the seven world-leading television manufacturers, namely Sony, Philips, Toshiba, and Sharp. In addition, Opera also has teamed up with 20 vendors who make the set top box.

In the future, Opera hopes, their browsers are not only present in the TV as an application to surf in cyberspace, but also as a platform for other applications that are accessed via the Opera.

During the panel discussion, among others, are also present HÃ¥kon Wium Lie, Opera's Chief Technology Officer, Cenk Serdar as Director of Data and Communication Services Vodafone, and Saara Bergstrom as Head of Consumer Engagement and Social Marketing Rovio disclosed, approximately 10 years ago the Internet is predicted to shift the TV . But what happened instead support its development. Now, Opera projected that TV will become the next focus, as well as mobile internet becomes the focus of the Opera after the fixed-line internet.

Furthermore, Opera believes that since the Nintendo Wii proved how playing games can also be a social interaction and not simply a private activity, television is connected to the internet will also become a means for families who want to play games together. They no longer need to buy the console, but simply open a browser on television to access the games with multiplayer.
