Track your ATM machine Thieves Use Facebook


Facebook used by five students of UGM to track a stolen ATM machine. Combined with a few simple technology and web-site to other web sites, the offender can be tracked quickly.

"Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, used to access the presence of the perpetrator. Even the position of the culprit can be identified by the Google Maps facility," said Muhammad Anis Al Hilmi, one of the students who developed the system.

Tools with special sensors installed in the ATM machine. The sensor is specifically designed to be connected to a Facebook or Twitter account. The account is only accessible to police. When the robbery occurred, Facebook accounts will receive a special message containing the name of the bank, the name and number machines, as well as the presence of the perpetrator.

"Work is different from the CCTV equipment should always be supervised. The existence of the perpetrators could not be detected directly. If with this tool, while playing up, the crime can be controlled," said Anis.

Tools developed since last January has been tested in the office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Police. Police party also give an appreciation of such a device and expect no further development. Anis admitted there are some banks that are interested in artificial systems.

The system is priced at Rp 10 million. Anis said that the accuracy of positioning the perpetrator will be increased from a radius of 8 meters to 1 meter. So, if the stolen safe was taken away, the police can more quickly combing actors that may still exist in the vicinity.

Anis and his team, which consisted of Abdul Rokhman Assyukur, Dawn Aji Nugroho, and Sean Satya Henura, won the gold medal in the National Student Science Week XXIV in Makassar, July 22, for making this security system.
