China overtook the U.S. computer market


Sales of personal computers in China will probably overtake the United States in the last quarter. Over the last three decades, the U.S. dominates the market that was pioneered by Apple Computer Inc. and International Business Machines Corp..

Computer sales in China increased 14 percent to 18.5 million units during the second quarter. This is the first time, the country which has a population of more than a billion is exceeded sales in the U.S..

According to Bryan Ma, an analyst with research firm IDC, sales of computers in the U.S. fell 4.8 percent to 17.7 million. He also predicts a total computer sales in China in the year 2012 will pass the U.S..

Value of computer sales in China during the second quarter of this reached 11.9 billion U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, computer sales in the U.S. amounting to 11.7 billion U.S. dollars. China had already mastered 22 percent of the global personal computer market, while the U.S. holds 21 percent global market share.
